Jonathan Riddell, Canoeist, Quaker and Computer Person.

I make a Linux operating system called KDE neon and I currently work for Blue Systems. I previously made Kubuntu, a flavour of Ubuntu. I am the largest contributor to Ubuntu by uploads in the last decade.

I mostly live in Edinburgh in Scotland, but travel around and stay elsewhere such as Guadeloupe or Barcelona.

I canoe at clubs in Edinburgh and attend Quaker meetings here.

You can hire me to consult on Linux and computing issues at my consultancy Edinburgh Linux.   You can also hire me to host mailing lists and websites.

Most importantly you can hire me to train you in canoeing, I am a British Canoeing UKCC Level 2 Coach with 4* and Moderate Water Endorsement qualified to train and lead on whitewater.

  1. Hi! I just read about you stepping down for Kubuntu, and I have a question: do you think it would be difficult to make a debian flavour much like what you did with Kubuntu? Since the license stuff got resolved, KDE is packaged (AFAICT) in stable and beyond, and it should be a small change from ubuntu to debian in a number of ways.

I’m really not sure about the name. kDebian? KDEbian? Kebian?

  2. Thanks jonathan for the years on the Kubuntu team and for Neon, I love both for different reasons. although they both have two things in common Ubuntu and KDE, I am a fan !

  3. Dude. I hope you make smart babies. Neon rocks.

It would be a shame not to pass on that intellect.

Notices the huge amount of work that goes in to it all. You have fans, really. Don’t stop the good stuff.
